Background

Distribution mainline pipes are the backbone of LADWP’s water distribution system. There are approximately 6,794 miles of mainline pipe, of which about 30 percent of are over 80 years old. With a focus on infrastructure improvement programs, LADWP will continue to provide customers with a reliable source of water by upgrading major system components that are old, or located in seismic areas.

The Canoga Ave Mainline Replacement Project is a part of LADWP’s plan to replace aging infrastructure in the system.

Project Description

LADWP crews will install 2,700- feet of 6 and 8-inch Ductile Iron pipeline. The affected streets are Canoga Ave., Velicata St., Celes St., and De La Osa St.

LADWP will provide a 48-hour advance notice when temporary service interruptions are needed to make water mainline connections. Other than the connection work, service interruptions throughout the project are not expected.

The project is expected to begin in May 2025 and will continue for approximately 5-months.

Construction & Traffic Information

LADWP crews will use a rolling construction method which limits construction areas to single, 100 to 300-foot sections to minimize the traffic impacts to the community.

To ensure the safety of the crew and the community, work zones will be set-up that can include lane and or street closures. Crews will work with the community to allow ingress and egress from properties at all times.

At the end of each work shift, trenches will be covered with steel plates and traffic lanes will be reopened.

Temporary tow-away/no-parking signs will be posted as needed. Local and driveway access will be provided.
