Brighten Your Business With LED Outdoor Lighting

High-quality outdoor lighting can really help make your business shine. It's also critical for safety and security. Unfortunately, lighting can also take up a lot of space in your energy budget. If you're looking to better illuminate your outdoor space, LEDs can provide the kind of energy-efficient and high-performance lighting you need.

The benefits of LEDs

They provide a host of benefits over conventional lighting technologies that can brighten your outdoor space and your bottom line. Here are five reasons why you should make the switch to LEDs:

  1. Longer life. LED lamps are rated for up to 50,000 hours or more for some outdoor applications, compared to 16,000 to 24,000 hours for conventional HID lamps. This is a real plus in outdoor areas where maintenance and replacement are a challenge.
  2. Increased durability. Made from solid materials, LEDs are resistant to damage from shock or vibration, which is sometimes a problem in rugged outdoor environments.
  3. Improved light quality. LEDs offer improved light quality, as measured by the color rendering index (CRI) and correlated color temperature (CCT). Higher light quality allows you to maintain or improve visibility and safety using less light output or fewer fixtures.
  4. Instant start. LEDs start instantly, making them a perfect fit for motion detectors, timers and other controls, which may reduce energy use even further. HID lamps, by contrast, have a delayed start and require up to 12 minutes to reach full illumination.
  5. Better direction. Unlike other lighting technologies, which are omni-directional, LED fixtures shine light in a specific direction. This makes it easy to focus light exactly where you need it.

Let us help with your outdoor lighting

Is there a wooden LADWP utility pole within 25 feet of your property line? Whether for security, safety, or efficiency, outdoor area lighting may be just the service to enhance your business. Our Outdoor Area Lighting program can help you illuminate the areas outside your business with fixtures that provide six to ten times as much light as conventional lighting for the same energy consumption.

More information about the program is available on the LADWP website. To participate, reach out to the program team by phone at (213) 367-3000 or via email at [email protected]; one of our Outdoor Lighting Specialists will contact you to schedule an appointment, select the outdoor lighting fixture that is right for you and explain the related costs.

Careful selection is important

If our Outdoor Area Lighting program is not right for your business, but you still need outdoor lighting, consider the following: To optimize savings and performance, careful selection is important. Look for fixtures that have been independently tested according to recognized standards, such as those published by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES). Also, make sure LED products meet DesignLights Consortium criteria for outdoor lighting.

LEDs typically cost more, but you can save money and realize a good return on your investment through lower energy and maintenance costs. Work with a qualified lighting professional to find the right fixtures and system design to meet your needs.

Integrate controls for more savings

Motion sensors and timers can save energy without compromising safety or security. Motion sensors activate all or some of the lights in an area when pedestrians or vehicles approach. For businesses with defined hours of operation, timers can switch lights on and off, or dim them according to a set schedule. LEDs, with their instant-start and dimming capabilities, are an excellent fit for integration with lighting controls.

LEDs deliver savings at storage facility

The owners of A Storage Depot in Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania, were looking for a solution to increase light levels around their facility and reduce operating costs. They replaced 101 high-pressure sodium and T-12 fluorescent fixtures with LEDs. The high-quality, energy-efficient LED lighting significantly improved visibility throughout the facility while reducing lighting energy use by 63%. An added bonus was annual maintenance cost savings of nearly $7,500.

By combining energy-efficient LED lighting with the right combination of quality design and integrated controls, you can improve the visibility and security of your business while brightening your bottom line.
