Project Description

LADWP began construction of the Pipe Jacking at Crescent Heights Boulevard, Cashio Street Street to Saturn Street Project (Pipe Jacking Project) in October 2010 and completed the project on March 16, 2012.

The Pipe Jacking Project included the construction of a 500-foot long, 60-inch-diameter potable water pipeline installed on Crescent Heights Boulevard between Cashio Street and Saturn Street (see project map).

The 60-inch-diameter welded-steel pipe was tunneled through Crescent Heights Boulevard. An earth pressure balance tunnel boring machine was used to tunnel the water line approximately 60 feet below the ground. Conventional trenching methods will be used to install the 60-inch-diameter welded-steel pipe at the intersections of Crescent Heights Boulevard at Cashio Street Street and Saturn Street Street.

Purpose of Project

This project will complete the 8-mile long Stone-Hollywood Trunk Line (SHTL). SHTL will connect the Stone Canyon Reservoir and Hollywood Reservoir service areas. SHTL will improve the reliability of the LADWP distribution system, provide operational flexibility, and assist with future water quality improvement projects.
