Project Background
The Slauson Ave and Van Ness Ave area Mainline Project is an important part of LADWP’s plan to accelerate the replacement of aging infrastructure. The existing pipeline that was installed nearly a century ago has been prone to many leaks which has prioritized its replacement. The new mainline pipe will improve water service, fire protection, and reliability for the community.
This project is an essential investment in water infrastructure that will ensure the delivery of reliable, high-quality water to the local community.
Construction Information
LADWP crews will excavate to replace approximately 12,000-feet of existing pipe along 5th Ave, 4th Ave, 3rd Ave, 2nd Ave, Cimarron St, S Wilton Pl, S Gramercy Pl, and S St Andrews Pl between W 54th St and W Slauson Ave. For the safety of the work crews and the community, construction will require temporary lane reductions and local street closures.
To minimize impacts to the community, crews will place steel plates over trenches to allow typical traffic flow after construction hours. LADWP will provide a 48-hour notification prior to any planned service interruptions. Upon project completion, the work area will be re-paved.
Traffic along Slauson Ave will remain open for traffic in each direction. Access to businesses and local residents will be maintained during construction. Street parking will be restricted in the work zone during construction hours. Driveways will remain accessible. Throughout construction, temporary tow-away/no parking signs will be posted, as needed.

- Phase 2: Gramercy Place — from Slauson Ave to 54th St
- Phase 3: South Wilton Place — from Slauson Ave to 54th St
- Phase 4: Cimarron Street — from Slauson Ave to 54th St
- Phase 5: 2nd Avenue — from Slauson Ave to 54th St
- Phase 6: 3rd Avenue — from Slauson Ave to 54th St
- Phase 7: 4th Avenue — from Slauson Ave to 54th St
- Phase 8: 5th Avenue — from Slauson Ave to 54th St
This work will be done in phases to reduce the impacts to the community. Steel plates will cover trenches at the end of each workday to maintain normal traffic flow.

Monday – Friday, 9 am – 3:30 pm
Intersection Work (Occasional): Saturday, 8 am – 5 pm
Peak Hour Exemption (as needed): Monday – Friday, 6 am – 9 am, 3:30 pm – 7 pm
Night Work (as needed): Monday – Friday, 9 pm – 6 am
