Project Description
The Broadway Mainline Project is an important part of LADWP’s plan to accelerate the pace of replacing aging infrastructure. The existing pipeline was installed in the 1920’s and due to recent multiple leaks, the replacement of this pipe has been prioritized.
The new mainline will provide several benefits, including improved water service, enhanced fire protection for the community, and greater reliability and operational flexibility for LADWP.
The existing cast-iron pipeline will be replaced with new 6-inch, ductile pipe. This will strategically improve the area’s infrastructure and ensure water reliability.
Construction Information
Construction will be divided into small work areas to minimize impacts to the community.
For the safety of the work crews and the community, construction will require temporary lane reductions, a closure for the alley on Merton Ave and some intersection closures.
Water service interruptions will be needed to complete water main connections. LADWP will provide a 48-hour notification before any planned service interruptions.
Construction hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Occasional Saturday and night work may be needed.
At the end of each workday, all excavated areas will be covered with steel plates to allow typical traffic flow.
Upon project completion, the work areas will be re-paved.
Traffic and Parking
Traffic access along major streets will remain available in both directions throughout construction.
Street parking will be restricted in the work zone during construction hours. Driveways will remain accessible at all times.
Temporary tow-away/no parking signs will be posted as needed. Access to businesses and the surrounding neighborhood will be maintained throughout construction.

Phase 1: September 2025 – March 2026
Phase 2: March 2026- September 2026
Phase 3: September 2026- March 2027
Phase 4: March 2027- February 2028
