About The Program
The Commercial EV Charging Station Rebate Program offers rebates to help offset the cost of installing commercial charging equipment, including:
- Level 2 charging station rebates to charge light-duty EVs of up to $5,000 per charging station if deployed in a Disadvantaged Community.
- Direct current fast chargers (DCFCs) rebates to charge light-duty EVs of up to $100,000 per charging station depending on power output.
- Charging station rebates to charge medium- and heavy-duty EVs of up to $125,000 per charging station depending on power output.
They must be permanently installed by a licensed electrical contractor and hardwired to the building premises (either wall-, pole- or pedestal-mounted) for a minimum in-service period of five years. The program offers two paths to apply. A rebate reservation is available to set aside funding for your rebate prior to the deployment of the charging stations as long as you meet the program’s requirements. Alternatively, customers may apply to the program after completing deployment. LADWP approval of your commercial EV charging plans is required before the deployment of any charging stations.

Before Applying
New chargers increase the electric demand of your site on the grid. LADWP needs to ensure that the utility infrastructure serving your site is adequately sized to avoid any service issues before the chargers are installed. When you submit your completed Customer Submittal Package, LADWP will evaluate the impact of the future EV charging load on the existing utility infrastructure and determine if any upgrades are needed to serve the new chargers. The option to submit a Customer Submittal Package to LADWP’s EV Service Design Group is available year-round. All charging stations must be certified and listed by a nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRTL) except as noted for charging stations for medium-and heavy-duty EVs. All charging station installations must meet two criteria: a minimum input voltage of 208 volts and the minimum input current required by the equipment to be operational, regardless of any load management scenarios. They must be permanently installed by a licensed electrical contractor and hardwired to the building premises (either wall-, pole- or pedestal-mounted) for a minimum in-service period of five years. See below for general program guidelines and refer to the Terms and Conditions for more information.
Level 2 Charging Stations for Light-duty EVs
- J1772 connector, with an output power of 6.2 kW or more
- Installed on or after June 1, 2022
- At least two parking spaces available to employees, tenants or the public to qualify for one charging station rebate. One additional rebate is available for each additional 4 parking spaces up to a maximum of 40 rebates per premises.
- Charging stations with more than one charge are eligible to receive an additional incentive of up to $500 per port.
- Certified and listed by a nationally recognized testing laboratory such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL)

DC Fast Chargers for Light-duty EVs
- Guaranteed output power of 50 kW or more per active connector.
- Installed on or after June 1, 2022.
- The following two fast charging connector types are eligible: SAE CCS and Tesla.
- A minimum of 50 percent of all rebated connectors must support SAE CCS.
- A maximum of eight DCFC rebates are available per premises, but only up two DCFCs may have restricted access. All other DCFCs must be publicly available 18 hours a day, seven days a week, excluding holidays.
- DCFCs must be connected to a back-end network operations center for the duration of the required in-service period (minimum five years), which enables remote diagnostics, remote start, and usage data collection.
- Certified and listed by a nationally recognized testing laboratory such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL)

Charging Stations for Medium- and Heavy-duty EVs
- Power output of 6.2 kW or more for an AC charging station or 24 kW or more for a DC charging station.
- Installed on or after June 1, 2022.
- Proof of purchase of a new medium- and heavy-duty plug-in EV (transit buses, school buses, and trucks, only) for each claimed charging station rebate. The charging station owner and the vehicle owner/lessee may be different entities.
- Qualifying vehicles must be eligible for financial incentives by a government agency of the state of California.
- Maximum rebate amount of $500,000 per premises.
- Charging stations must be listed by a nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRTL) or may be field tested if approved by Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS).
